The Olympic Village represents the first building block in the extensive Scalo di Porta Romana urban regeneration project, and reflects Milan’s “olympic spirit”: its function is to offer a primary space for the 2026 Winter Olympics, which then becomes an asset to be returned to the city’s community. The project looks to the future aware of the legacy it creates.

As outlined in the “Parco Romana” Masterplan, the Olympic Village will be located in the south-west area of the railway yard and will guarantee continuity with the existing functions and a general balance with the neighbourhood.
A PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Olympic Village will welcome approx. 1,400 Olympic and Paralympic athletes, and will be converted into student housing after the Games. There are also 10,000 sqm of services connected to the Olympic event, which will then be transformed into private services in the public interest or general services.
In the first phase, open spaces will be assigned for the Olympic event: the large plaza to the east, at the entrance of the Village, will welcome athletes and visitors, while the inner spaces will be functional areas for the athletes to access services related to the Games.
Communal spaces will be designated for the sports population for the duration of the Games, guaranteeing the viability of the area: cafeteria, medical area, communal spaces for games and relaxing and other services, such as the centre for communication and the reception for the sports delegations of the various nations.

FROM OLYMPIC VILLAGE TO NEW STUDENT HOUSING FOR THE CITY
Delivery of the Olympic Village to the Milano Cortina Foundation must take place before 31 July 2025, and will be returned to the city before 31 July 2026. The aim is to transform the structure into student housing for the 2026 academic year.
THE FIRST 0 KM VILLAGE
This area will also offer greenhouses and vegetable gardens for food production, managed through a completely digital platform, which will provide 0-kilometre products to the student residences and those visiting the plaza. A vibrant space with shops, events and farmer’s markets.
A NEW URBAN COMMUNITY
The private services of public interest and general services – mainly located in historical buildings and newly built natural areas – will become public use spaces for the benefit of the student population and the city as a whole.
The plazas will be given back to the city as new social exchange and meeting places.
